History and Development

STMIK Balikpapan (Balikpapan Institute of Informatics and Computing) a.k.a. STIKOM Balikpapan is a licensed higher education program with operation permit issued by the Minister of National Education No. 08/D0/2000 dated in 1st February 2000 with 2 different programs namely Informatics Engineering (undergraduate program) and Informatics Management (3-year diploma program). In the end of 2006, Informatics Engineering program received a license extension from the General Director of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education, Republic of Indonesia No. 4530/D/T/2006 dated on 4th December 2006, and Informatics Management (3-year diploma program) with license No. 4531/D/T/2006.

Kampus B STIKOM Balikpapan

Located in the city of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, STIKOM Balikpapan is continuously growing as the information technology advances. In its sixth year of operation, Informatics Engineering (undergraduate program) received an accreditation from the National Accreditation Bureau No. 005/BAN-PT/Ak-X/S1/VI/2006 in 15th June 2006. Then, Informatics Management (3-year diploma program) accredited with a decree No. 003/BAN-PT/Ak-VI/Dpl-III/VI/2006 in 1st June 2006.

Supported with more than 15 permanent and 25 temporary lecturers, as of today, STIKOM Balikpapan has successfully conducted 3 time graduations with 150 graduates of Bachelor in Computer and 250 graduates as Diploma in Computer who are mostly hired by companies in various sectors.

Vision, Mision and Objectives

The vision of STIKOM Balikpapan is to be best institution in promoting Three Functions of Higher Education Institution in Balikpapan and East Kalimantan in General.

Being the best is explained as follows:

• Always participate actively in giving direction to the development in this region especially in information technology sector.
• Consistently being a role model and a benchmark in empowering and developing information technology.
• Consistently being an innovator and dynamic promoter to the community in the sector of information technology.
• Consistently strive to give solution toward any problems on information technology.

The mission of STIKOM Balikpapan is administering education and research in supporting national development, dedicating to the community which is based on the institute’s objectives, perform a healthy academic life as well as developing and maintaining any new scientific findings, technology and humaniora, and optimizing the empowerment of the available human resources.

The main objectives of STIKOM Balikpapan as a national education institution are to educate, create and develop human personality and capability, to maintain and develop the culture and environment scientifically in supporting development of the country and its people as part of Pancasila (Five Basic Principles of Indonesia) and UUD 1945 (Indonesia Constitution 1945).
